Got out last weekend seeing if there was any open water around since no ice was fishable. Thought the best bet would be to head down Plymouth. When we got to the pond there was a thin layer of ice but still some open water and by 10:00 the whole pond was open. got 2 nice rainbows, both about 16.5 and just under 1.5 lbs. Surprise to be out fishing open water in jaunuary.

Had a full day off and with the cold front coming in figured we would try to catch some trout. Going into the day my buddy and I have managed a career 2 trout. Headed out at 5:30 with the temp still in the 30's. Tried a pond that we have tried before with 0 luck but not too much for trout fishing in the Boston area.
Had one of the best days of the Summer/Early Fall catching about 20 fish on spoons, spinners, rooster tail and the power bait. 6 Brown trout, few smaller LM, a few picks, a perch and a hand full of Eels (first time catching those as well on some kivers)
By 9:00 it warmed up and was a beautiful day. Went back out at dusk (where we hit the eels) and stopped by a small brook during lunch and caught a few small brookies (I believe are natives???)
As we are leaving in the dark I felt what I thought was the biggest fish of the day, fought it for about 5 minutes, had it jump about 5 feet from shore then it took off. Got it back in and as it got close felt one more big tug and she got off. Couldn't tell what it was in the dark. Had nightmares about losing it all night.
After a VERY slow summer with small LM and not much variety it was a ray of hope for the Fall. With Darkness coming earlier and earlier and getting out of work around 6:00, looks like only being able to get out on off days from here on out.

took the 2+ hour trip from the south shore to see what the Quabbin was all about. heard great things about it, hoping to land some bigger fish than we have in my neck of the woods. 3 guys, about 8 hours on the water. We only had about 8 fish combined. highlight of the day was landing this big guy, Probably the smallest bass Ive ever pulled in. Nice cute fish though.
Dont know much about the Quabbin but figured wed give it a shot. Wish I new a little bit more about it for more success this Spring when I get the Rare day off from baseball

Went out for the second time on walker pond today. Lots of slop, just walking in about a foot of slush and snow wasnt the way to start the day. Had 3 guys, had about 30 flags landed about 20 fish, 18 pickerel, a small crappie and a 2 lb bass. Got 2 buddies to come out for the first time and after complaining about the cold and slop, once they pulled up their first fish, they loved it.

Finally able to have a weekend day off so I took a day trip out to visit some old friends.
As we pull in around 6:30 we see TONS of cars and more cars pulling in behind us. Worried about getting on the ice to find it full we were happy to see that there was plenty of room.
We have never fished the lake before so we found a nice spot along a cove and set up. Before we were getting to our 2nd hole... His first flag goes, as we walk to get it, My first flag flys.
Hit Pickerel all day long 20 or so of them with a few bigger ones here and there. They continued hitting and we didnt catch anything else til 9:00ish. Then the bass came through, iced about 7 bass with 2-3 fish closer to 3 Lb. Had a few perch mixed in as well.
Decided to Brave the lull around 11:30 we stuck it out and stayed out there til dawn when the snow was coming down pretty good. Ended up with about 3 more fish but ended up for 35 fish between the 2 of us.
All in all a fun day, lots of flags and some good food

Headed out to central MA to get on the ice yesterday. Pretty solid ice 5-7'' after thinking there woulndt be much with the weather around me.
The rain come down around 9:30 but got a few flags around 8:00 with small bass and pickeral. Flags went quiet and the rain came down a little harder so we called it an early day.
