An Angler's Dream Night On The Lake- Two Warrior Bass

I looked out at the lake after I returned from my softball game and couldn't resist the urge to search for Larry. I set out at 11:00 pm on an absolute glass surfaced Lake Maspenock with zero wind. I had a special feeling about the night- the date 6/3 stuck in my head while I was paddling to a spot I had in my mind. I arrived to my destination about a quarter of a mile from shore in 8-10 feet of water with a rock shelf and weeds below me- Game time! Three of my first four casts connected with bass in the 1-1 ½ lb range. It felt like a dream, the fish were going crazy. I almost knew at this point that it would be a time to remember. About five casts later I landed my first Larry- she weighed 5 lbs 6 ozs and gave an incredible fight. The Pig hit my jitterbug the second it hit the water and took me about 30 seconds to bring it in but once I got it to the boat the fish went straight down before propelling itself in the air- Holy S***, the excitement set in. I netted the beast and brought her back to the shore to have one of my roomates take a few photos before I released it. While shaking my veins filled with joy I realized tonight was truly a special night, probably the best night to fish of the whole year.

It's now 11:32 pm and I head back out to the same area. My first cast I landed another solid fish but a few seconds into the battle it shook the hook free. I fished for another 40 minutes and caught 4 more bass between 1-2 lbs with plenty of missed jitter hits in between. Literally every other cast got the attention of a bass in some way or another. I was about to head in when I decided to paddle a football field's distance to a marker in the water on the outskirts of the area I had just peppered. My first cast in the area landed 10 feet from the markers..... blup blup, blup blup and then SMASH- The true Monster of the night came out to play. This fish surfaced a half dozen times before I reeled it in close to the boat. As it approached the boat it went straight down, taking my drag to under the boat to the other side of the canoe before I hear and see it jump through the water (I'm nervous as you know what that it was going to get off) but patiently worked it back under the boat and netted the beast. I tied it up as my hands trembled to secure the fish as I breathed a sigh of relief and let a WHOOOOOOOO out that woke up half the residents in Hopkinton. I got on shore and had another roomate take plenty of photos and weighed the fish- 6lbs 1 oz and was 21 ½ inches long. I let the fish go and it was about 1:00 am at this point. The night of solo angling resulted in 2 slobs, over 20 lbs of fish and one happy Valpey! I enjoyed a victory coors light on the deck looking at the lake as I thought to myself...what a night!
